The Photographic Art Gallery At Gallery Renee

    This is Renee Lichtman's photographic art gallery. Most of the photographs are botanical and floral. Two of them are landscapes that feature trees. Botanical subjects are ephemeral. In the case of day lilies each blossom can only last for one day. The oriental type lily in Pink Summer Lily lasts for just three to four days. The Cattleya orchids blossoms last for what seems like a long time of two to three weeks. Yet Renee felt even this extended time was often not enough time to finish an image. This is due to the very limited amount of time Renee can spend drawing, her rather fussy nature and a tendency to like to work on many different drawings at the same time.
    Renee started taking digital photographs as references so that she could continue a drawing long after the subject had faded. She felt there would no longer be a time limit and could then take as much time as she needed to render a subject.
    Renee then began to fall in love with the process of digital photograph. With digital photography there were no longer any limits to the number of pictures that could be taken as there had been when Renee was using film. She was freed to photograph a subject until she was satisfied that she had gotten the image.

"Not only could I make many photographs I could improve them. I could bring out colors, correct flaws, crop to improve compositions, call attention to details or hide distractions.
Good darkroom photographers are able to accomplish all of these things and more. But, for me photography didn't become a reality until it became digital. As an artist I could take all that I know about art and apply it to digital photography. That's something I never had the opportunity to do with traditional photography." Renee FW Lichtman
